This mental illness affects the sufferer’s ability to determine what is real and what is not. This experience is known as “psychoses”, and can take the form of hallucinations (sensory experiences that go against reality; such as hearing people talking to you who are not there), and delusions (a strong belief that does not correspond with reality). Unlike what is depicted in pop-media sufferers of schizophrenia often experience auditory hallucinations over visual ones.
