​Mental Health & Addictions Worker

Mind By Design® is a mental health clinic with over 25 locations throughout Ontario. We offer psychological assessments, therapy, and therapeutic devices to clients in over 10 languages. We provide empathetic, compassionate, genuine, personalized and discreet treatment, with emphasis on professional evidence-based therapy to help adults and adolescents live happier, more fulfilled and productive lives.

 

Mind By Design® is currently searching for a dynamic Mental Health professional to join us in an unpaid placement position, working with our healthcare providers and operations team. You will play a key role in assisting with client intakes, counselling practices and educational initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with client intakes and pre-screening; participate in meetings with clients and communicate effectively;

  • Assist with mental health counselling regarding the cause, symptoms and prevention strategies of various mental health diagnoses under supervision;

  • Assist with treatment plans and counselling regarding the use and effects of alcohol and drugs;

  • Collaborate with team members in preparing for and contributing to initial psychological assessment; follow up on the implementation and evaluation of intervention strategies with interdisciplinary practitioners, as well as members of the client’s support network;

  • Develop and deliver educational courses, workshops, presentations, coaching and programs designed for mental health topics to groups as requested;

  • Develop promotional materials and information for mental health initiatives;

  • Maintain clients’ files according to established standards, procedures and protocols;

  • Perform case reviews and evaluation of processes; prepare reports of relevant observations and evaluation of care to ensure continuity of quality service, communication and client documentation;

  • Support family members and practitioners through the provision of up-to-date clinical information; assist clients and partnering organizations by recommending utilization of existing resources;

  • Prepare funding proposals for mental health and addiction initiatives as requested.

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, energetic and eager to learn along with professional drive;

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills to establish and maintain a wide range of contacts with healthcare professionals and partnering organizations;

  • Efficiency at MS Office and G Suite;

  • Knowledge of crisis management and the impact of trauma on mental wellness and addiction issues;

  • Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted;

  • Attention to detail and demonstration of analytical decision-making and critical thinking;

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills, including the ability to prioritize between tasks, multitask complex deadlines under pressure, and manage competing priorities;

  • Project an image of professionalism, integrity, tact and discretion while working with highly sensitive and confidential information;

  • Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships;

  • Ability to be both consistent and flexible as circumstances warrant;

  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in psychological emergencies or crises when provided with appropriate supervision and direction;

  • Be comfortable in collaborating and communicating within an interdisciplinary team.

Location for placement: Temporarily remote due to COVID-19. Mind By Design® is currently offering all supportive services and conducting meetings through video conferencing. Working at physical offices/clinics and home visits for service delivery may be required afterwards.

Internship terms: This is an unpaid internship. No benefits provided.

 

Number of hours: 37.5 hours per week to be completed Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

You may be required to work 2.5 to 5.5 more hours per week. This will depend on the active projects and tasks needing attention.

 

Starting Date: Early in September
